Romans 10:15b- “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” (NIV)
‘The farther from the face, the poorer the treatment of the body part!’ (Dr. Ian McLean, chiropodist)
That places our feet at the bottom of the care package doesn’t it? Sometimes we don’t notice them until sandal weather bears them for the world to see. Then, wild cuticles, jagged nails and calluses suddenly become more important to us. Thankfully, a good pedicure clears up lots of tootsies problems!
While we may neglect our feet, God values them.
“How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” (Romans 10:15b-NIV)
And just who is carrying that Good News? Some think the responsibility lies only with speakers.
This is not true. It’s a group effort. Where would speakers speak if someone, in faith, had not prayed or helped build a building or tithed their income to pay expenses? Who would speakers address if welcoming committee hadn’t made folks feel at home or ushers escorted people to their seats?
Why does an audience listen? They listen because everyday people like us prepared the way. A speaker drops in for a couple of hours and leaves. Group effort people remain and that audience watches our attitudes, our lifestyles, and our actions. We bring Jesus to our community every day. Our faithfulness counts.
How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of those who bring good news,
who proclaim peace,
who bring good tidings,
who proclaim salvation,
who say to Zion,
“Your God reigns!” (Isaiah 52:7- NIV)
Do our spiritual feet need a pedicure? We can get a free one in the Word of God.
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
(Ephesians 6:14-15 NIV)
Prayer- Lord, when we doubt our feeble efforts, just point us to the nearest pedicure. Amen
