“8 Watch out that you do not lose what wet have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.” -2 John 1:8
The other day I stepped on the scale for the first time in a month and a half. It has been a busy time of life for my wife and I as we prepare for the birth of our first child. We’ve been trying to deep clean the house and prepare for her arrival the best way. I looked at the scale and was stunned to see that in the past month and a half I had gained 5 pounds without even realizing it.
I have worked incredibly hard to lose 75 Pounds and a few weeks of being lazy and eating horribly has caused me to gain a few pounds back. It isn’t a big deal for me to put on a few pounds as long as I don’t let those few pounds multiply by 10, 20 or 30.
What is a hard pill to swallow though is that we do the same in our spiritual lives. We spend time in The Word and our relationship with Christ grows. We spend time in prayer and we feel so close to Him, but the moment we take our eyes off Him we slip. 1 Peter 5:8 reads, “8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
He waits for those moment where we are week. Those moments where we are our caught off guard and our weakest. he’s too cowardly to try to attack us when we’re at our strongest. He’s going to wait until you have your guard down and attack. He’ll throw the temptation that you’re too busy to pray. He’ll convince you that if you miss one night’s devotions that you’ll be fine.
We don’t realize it, but we began walking the other way. We walk away from His voice and it slowly fade to a whisper and eventually it is impossible to hear.
So turn your ear to Him and listen!
