“This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” – 1 John 4:10
What would you say if I asked you to send your son or daughter to take the place of a convicted felon? That your son or daughter was going to take the punishment for the criminal who has admitted to committing a crime and is somewhat proud. Not only is your son or daughter taking the place of one criminal, but all criminals. Your son/daughter will be sentenced for all the crimes that will ever be committed.
That bank robbery where an armed man took thousands of dollars? Your beautiful little daughter will be punished.
That person who embezzled millions of dollars through corporate fraud? Your innocent son will be behind bars for it.
The terrorists that kill innocent lives every day in the name of their god? Your flesh and blood gets the death sentence.
I love my daughter so much and she isn’t even here yet. She’s due on June 4th and my wife and I talk about the future that we have dreamed for her. Knowing the feeling of the love that I have for my unborn daughter makes me even more confused about how much God loves us. He loves us so much that He sent His Son to die for us. To take on your sin. To take on my sin. And to take on sin for all of us who don’t deserve forgiveness and grace.
He loves you more than you can fathom.
He loves me more than I can fathom.
He loves us more than we deserve.
