“What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” – James 4:13
My wife and I are currently away from sunny Florida and are home visiting family in the lovely Hoosier state. Most of our family is meeting our daughter for the first time and this includes my grandpa.
My grandpa is recovering from chemo treatments and his health has definitely went downhill very quickly. I sat on the couch watching my grandpa holding my daughter and I held back tears. I held back tears because I’ve seen my strong and healthy grandpa turn into a frail and weak man. I once thought he was invincible and never once heard him complain about anything. It broke my heart when I asked him how he was feeling and his was reply was, “I hurt.” I was very thankful that I was able to get a picture of my grandpa holding his great-granddaughter. It is a photo that I can proudly show to her and tell her about how funny, loving and most of all a pain in the behind he was sometimes.
In all of this thinking it has caused me to think about how we get so comfortable in this world. We get caught up trying to make this world our home by pretending that our time on this world will never end. The reality is that we are only here for a blink of an eye. The time we have here on this earth is priceless. We need to take advantage of every second that we are given. We’re here to spread the Good News about Jesus to others.
Pray for those around you that you know need to hear Jesus.
