Genesis 21:6- Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me (NIV).”
A French thief plotted to steal paintings from the Louvre. He escaped with several but a policeman easily captured him because he ran out of gas just down the street from the art gallery.
The policeman asked the thief how he could mastermind such a great theft but get caught in such a foolish way.
The thief replied…”I had not MONET to buy DEGAS to make the VAN GOGH. I had DEGAULLE to try the burglary because I had nothing TOULOUSE!”
All right it is a corny old joke, but it is funny!
Sometimes we Christians look (and act) like we’ve been sucking lemons out of a sewer pipe for a week. That may be so, but we don’t need to show it.
Even Job’s friends expected God to give laughter and joy.
Job 8:21-He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy (NIV).
Yes, sometimes our lives are hard. The Bible says that even in laughter the heart may ache, and rejoicing may end in grief. (Proverbs 14:13, NIV)
However, we can decide which side of the ache we will stand on. We can always expect God’s best, because he always gives it.
Or we can whine and moan like the rest of the world does.
We are not the rest of the world.
When we laugh and sing praises, no matter what, it is a sign to others that The Lord provides for us and does great things for us.
Psalm 126:2- Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them.”
What expression is on our face today???
Prayer-Lord, help us look like the people we are….the beloved children of God. Amen
