Deuteronomy 14:7b- you may not eat the camel, the rabbit or the hyrax (NIV).
All right so you didn’t eat camel or hyrax. Me neither. However I did swallow too many bunny parts. Does this verse apply since I only ate the chocolate kind?
I remember my Grandpa bringing us chocolate bunnies. I gobbled mine as fast as I could, because even at the tender age of four, I’d learned that slow eating probably involved having to share.
Two-year-old Brother Larry was still staring at his bunny with amazement. I poked Larry’s bunny in the tummy.
“You don’t want to eat broken bunny tummy, do you Larry?”
“No-o-o-o,” he whispered.
So I ate it.
“Poke! You don’t want to eat broken bunny ears, do you Larry?”
“No-o-o-o” he sobbed.
You get the idea. By the time Mom found us, I’d eaten all of my treat and most of Larry’s.
Proverbs 25:16a–When you’re given a box of candy, don’t gulp it all down; eat too much chocolate and you’ll make yourself sick (MSG).
It’s taken me a life time to learn that no bunny loves you like Jesus. And there is no such thing as overdosing on Him.
Prayer-Lord, help us to understand that while something is good, it is not necessarily better and that the best choice is always Jesus. Amen.
