“And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us…” -Hebrews 12:1
My in-laws run races…5k’s, 10k’s, and more k’s than I care to think about running. I’ve watched them run a few races and then ran with them in a couple of other races and the one thing I’ve noticed is that they don’t have anything that isn’t a necessity for the time they’re running.
They don’t carry things that are normally important: cell phone, car keys or their wallets. Nor do they carry things like: a backpack full of rocks that they collected from all over the United States, a remote control airplane or fill their pockets with change they have saved up. When they’re running they leave behind everything that is non-essential.
Hebrews 12:1-2 tells us that we are to throw off everything that holds us back. To not carry around the sin, the shame and the chains that restrain us. When we fix our eyes on Jesus and run to Him like my in-laws run when they see the finish line…we bring our relationship with Christ to a new level. We find the last bit of energy to make it the last 100 meters. We fall into His arms exhausted and He restores us.
