I often wear a cross as a necklace. I have several kinds. Plain silver ones, gold, rhinestone, and intricately designed filigree. I’ve heard the sermons telling us how the cross was not some jeweled silver thing of beauty. It was a place of horrible cruelty, humiliation and torture. And I do not for one second take lightly the sacrifice my Savior made for me as He endured that excruciating death over two thousand years ago.

But there was a glory in that cross that superseded the horror. On that cross was the atoning work of God. On that cross hung the glory of promise for all mankind. On that cross was the Victor over sin and death. My King gave His all for me there. And when I wear my cross, I glory in the cross. Had it not been for the cross, there would be no sacrifice–and there would be no life for me. I praise God today for my Redeemer Who gave everything and became all the sin of the world so that I might celebrate Life everlasting today. The cross I wear is in honor of my King. The cross He bore was in love for me.

“And God purposed that through (by the service, the intervention of), Him [the Son] all things should be reconciled back to Himself, whether on earth or in heaven, as through Him, [the Father] made peace by means of the blood of His cross.” Colossians 1:20, Amplified.
