“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 11:1
My daughter will turn 5 months in a little over a week. I’m not really sure how that is possible because it seems like yesterday I was sitting in the hospital eating (surprisingly decent) hospital food. Everyone has always given us the advice to cherish these moments while she is young because they go by fast. I never really put much stock in those words, but now that I am a father I can attest that it is 100% true.
Being a father has been great in so many ways. I never would have thought that a little bald headed and blue eyed little girl could change my life so much. God called us away from Central Indiana to Central Florida for 3 years where we served in various aspects of ministry, but the minute we had a baby God reminded us through several events that family is essential.
Besides moving us far away from Walt Disney World and the beach…my daughter has made me a better man. My daughter raises the level of what I expect from myself. She causes me to demand better quality from myself and those around me.
My daughter is very a morning baby. When we go to wake her up in the morning she always has the biggest smile on her face when she sees us. It is in seeing this smile that 1 Corinthians 11:1 reminds me that I’m to lead not just my youth group, but more importantly, my family. That I should live my life in a way that people who follow my example are drawn closer and become more like Christ. That the way I choose to live my life and live out my faith matters to her faith.
Who are you leading?
