Believing and Belonging
Introduction
Psalm 24 is a song of praise and worship for the Lord, who is the Creator and King of all. Psalm 24:7-10 speaks of God’s people seeking His presence and gathering around Him in faith and awe. In this devotional, we will explore how these verses challenge us to embrace a spirit of believing and belonging to our Savior.
Scripture Commentary
Verses 7-10 read as follows:
“Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. 10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord Almighty— he is the King of glory.”
This passage reflects both God’s power and grandeur as well as His desire to draw near to His people. It expresses his eagerness to enter into faithful relationship with us.
Meaning for Today
Seeing these words through a modern lens challenges us to recognize our need for our Savior’s presence—individually and collectively—in our lives today. We must open ourselves up to him so that He can be present among us as we live out the Kingdom life on Earth. To do so requires surrendering everything over to Him and depending fully on His power instead of relying on our own limited strength or resources. When we make Jesus Christ our priority, allowing Him to reign supreme in our hearts and daily actions, He equips us for greater things than what we could ever accomplish ourselves (Ephesians 3:20). We are called not only to accept but also earnestly desire a close relationship with Jesus. Afterall, “the one who comes to me I will certainly not cast out” (John 6:37). Therefore let us acknowledge his rule over all creation; celebrate he is coming again soon; invite Him into every corner of our lives; entrust ourselves entirely unto Him; pray invitingly for revival within ourselves & amongst others; press towards knowing more about Him & honoring His sovereignty always!
